On Monday morning, a hand grenade was discovered at the gates of GP Women’s College, situated less than 100 meters from the Raj Bhavan in Manipur, causing panic among passersby.
Upon receiving notification of the grenade’s presence, police cordoned off the area. A bomb disposal squad later arrived to safely remove and dispose of the device.
The college is in close proximity to the Raj Bhavan and the chief minister’s official residence, as well as the Manipur Police headquarters. A hand-written note reading “glory to the proletarian students” was found at the scene.
This incident follows reports of extortion threats directed at several educational institutions in the Imphal Valley.
In response, students from the college staged a protest, holding placards and chanting slogans against the incident, demanding an end to such acts. Thokchom Yaiphabi Chanu, a college student, expressed strong condemnation, stating, “We demand that the perpetrators be apprehended.”
Police have registered a case and are currently investigating the situation.
