Manoj Ahuja, IAS, has been appointed as the new Chairperson, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the national level secondary education and examination board. He replaced Anita Karwal IAS who has been the Chairperson of CBSE for two years and is a 1988-batch IAS officer of Gujarat cadre.
“CBSE gets new Chairman Manoj Ahuja, IAS (OR:90), Special Director, Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Department of Personnel and Training,” said CBSE in a statement.
Ahuja has been appointed in the rank and pay of Additional Secretary to Government of India by temporarily upgrading the post. A 1990 Odisha cadre civil servant, Ahuja is currently serving as Special Director, Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Department of Personnel and Training.
The board functions under the overall supervision of the Controlling Authority which is vested with the Secretary, School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
The Chairperson is the Chief Executive of the Board and is assisted by fourteen Heads of Departments i.e. Secretary, Controller of Examinations, Director (Academics), Director (Training), Director (IT), Director (Misc. Examinations), Director (Edusat, Research & Development), Director (Skill Education), four Regional Directors, Director (Registered Office, Ajmer) and Director (Professional Examinations).
Earlier, Karwal has been appointed as the Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Human Resource Development, in April last week. The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pension said, “Anita Karwal, IAS, Chairperson, Central Board of Secondary Education, has been appointed as Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Human Resource Development vice Amit Khare, IAS, presently holding the additional charge of the post.”
