A professor from Indian Institute of Science (IISc), listed in the top 1% of scientists by research platform ISI Web of Knowledge, has been asked to take compulsory retirement after the institute investigated allegations of sexual harassment levelled against him.
Giridhar Madras, working with the institute’s chemical engineering department since 1998, was accused of sexual harassment by a PhD student he was mentoring. IISc’s governing council took the decision following an investigation by the institute’s internal complaints committee. His profile has also been taken down from the IISc website. In 2015, IISc had fired professor S. Durgappa over charges of sexual harassment.
