The Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ released an alternative academic calendar for the upper primary stage, that is, for classes 6 to 8. The alternative academic schedule is for the next two months detailing guidelines for online classes.
Pokhriyal said in a tweet, “Alternative Academic Calendar for upper primary stage (Classes VI to VIII) for four weeks was released earlier. I have launched the academic calendar for the next eight weeks today.”
The Calendar further aims to empower our students, teachers, school principals & parents with positive ways to deal with #Covid19 via online teaching-learning resources and achieve the best possible learning outcomes.https://t.co/VRNUh42NDW

He also said that the NCERT alternative academic calendar was created keeping in mind the various levels of access to mobile phones, radio, television and various social media. For students, who may not have internet facility or may not be able to use different social media tools, the calendar guides teachers to further help parents and students through SMS on mobile phones or through voice call. Parents are expected to help elementary stage students to implement this calendar.
NCERT had earlier published the calendar classes one to five. All the subjects will be released in the calendar through week-wise plans. This calendar would be disseminated through DTH Channels and also conducting video conferencing with SCERTs, Directorates of Education, SCERTs, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, CBSE, and State School Education Boards.
Pokhriyal had then tweeted, “Launched an 8-week Alternative Academic Calendar for the primary stage today. This Calendar contains detailed guidelines for teachers on the use of technology & social media tools to impart education while the students are at home.”
