Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida Campus, in collaboration with the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), Ministry of Science & Technology, organized a three-day International Conference on Millets (ICM) from January 22 to 24, 2025. Titled “Millet Fusion: Cultivating Sustainability, Nourishing Nations,” the event focused on the potential of millets in promoting sustainability, health, and innovation.
Dr. N. Kalaiselvi, Director General of CSIR, inaugurated the event as Chief Guest. She emphasized the importance of millet-based dietary packages for space travelers and sportspersons due to their exceptional nutritional value. Highlighting the role of CSIR and Amity in fostering innovation, she stated, “Under the Viksit Bharat Mission, millets can position India as a global leader in sustainable agriculture.”
Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President of Amity Education Group, shared his vision of India becoming a global superpower by 2047 through determination and focus. Dr. Neena Malhotra, Secretary-Political, Ministry of External Affairs, highlighted the global recognition of millets and stressed the need to transform the millet movement into a people’s movement.
Experts like Dr. Sudesh Kumar Yadav (Director, CSIR-IHBT), Dr. N. Zaheer Ahmed (Director General, CCRUM), and Dr. C Tara Satyavathi (Director, IIMR) spoke about millets’ resilience, nutritional benefits, and role in combating food insecurity. Dr. Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor of Amity University, emphasized the conference’s relevance for researchers, policymakers, and farmers, while Dr. Nutan Kaushik, Director General of AFAF, outlined the event’s objectives and extensive agenda.
The conference featured 44 distinguished speakers, 62 paper presentations, panel discussions, and an exhibition showcasing millet-based products and technologies. Themes included sustainable agriculture, nutritional innovation, and overcoming challenges in the millet value chain.
