Interns working at Maharashtra Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (MIMSR) and YCR Hospital in Maharashtra’s Latur have withdrawn their services from out patient department (OPDs), departments, wards and other services from July 18 over non-payment of their stipends.

“We have made sincere appeals regarding granting us stipend according to National Medical Commission- Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (NMC-CRMI) Guidelines – 2021, published on November 18, 2021, which states in Regulation-3 of Schedule-IV- All interns shall be paid as fixed by the appropriate fee fixation authority applicable to the institution/University/State,” states the letter written by interns of the institution.

The interns said that it has been more than a month that they have made multiple requests and official appeals and have protested silently but their demands have remained unheard. Hence, they have decided to withdraw all their services from July 18 until they will get the written assurance of confirmation of fulfilment of their demands.

They also added that other government-aided private medical colleges under MUHS who were not given any stipend until last year, have granted a stipend to interns since this year based on the guidelines.

Dr. Rohan Krishnan, national president of FAIMA Doctors Association tweeted, “Hundreds of interns are sitting on protest and strike at Maharastra based MIMSR college. Their demand being straight and simple that college should give them stipend for internship periods as per norms fixed. Kindly look into the matter.”
