The Mizoram government has taken disciplinary action by suspending a teacher who stands accused of leaking the social science question paper for the class 10 board examination, as revealed by a state minister in the assembly on Monday.
According to the minister, the teacher allegedly provided specific students with suggestions before the board exam held on March 8. The Mizoram Board of School Education (MBSE) swiftly launched an investigation in response to complaints regarding the similarity between the questions in the social science paper and those suggested by the teacher from the government-run Mizo High School, as shared by Dr. Vanlalthlana, the education minister.
Several individuals, including the president of the Mizoram Secondary School Teachers’ Association (MISSTA), the principal of Mizo High School, some students, and the suspected teacher, were questioned during the MBSE investigation. The inquiry revealed that the teacher, who was part of a moderation team responsible for filtering question papers, had confessed to the misconduct.
The teacher admitted to providing board exam questions as suggestions to academically weaker students during a special class. Notably, the students in question had documented the suggested questions in their notebooks, serving as tangible evidence of the impropriety, as highlighted by Minister Vanlalthlana.
Further investigation indicated that the suggested questions were not widely circulated, as the special class had limited attendance, and not all class 10 students at Mizo High School received the suggestions, the minister explained. The accused teacher faced suspension on Sunday for the misconduct, and a First Information Report (FIR) was promptly submitted to a local police station.
Minister Vanlalthlana reported that the examination committee convened a meeting on Monday to determine additional actions regarding the incident. He reassured that examinations for all remaining subjects would proceed as scheduled.
The occurrence sparked discontent among students and parents, leading to complaints on various social media platforms.
