MoE launches 2nd cycle of capacity building on specific learning disability

Ministry of Education

The Ministry of Education launched the second cycle of its Capacity Building Programme on Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD) under the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Programme (MMTTP). This initiative aims to equip Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) with the skills to support students with learning disabilities.

Higher Education Secretary Sanjay Murthy highlighted that the New National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 emphasizes the importance of addressing learning disabilities to ensure equitable and inclusive education. He stressed the need for ongoing capacity-building programs to tackle these challenges.

The first cycle, running from January to July this year and partnered with Changeinkk Foundation, included 27 HEIs such as Central Universities, IITs, IIITs, IIMs, IISERs, SPAs, and NITs. The program featured orientation sessions, master classes, workshops, and implementation monitoring.

The second cycle, starting today and continuing until December, will offer both online and in-person sessions for a new group of HEIs. It will focus on identifying, assessing, and addressing the needs of students with SLD, with an emphasis on training institutional leaders and department heads.

Participants will engage in interactive workshops, expert seminars, and practical sessions designed to foster inclusive learning environments. The program will be replicated with new HEIs over the next six months.
