Mood upbeat in new academic year

PW invited parents of Gurukul The School, Ghaziabad to share their insights on how their children are coping with the school syllabus in the new academic year

Gurukul has given my son Adithyavardhan Shetty (class XI) no reason to believe that syllabus completion will be a challenge this year. Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, Gurukul’s transition to online classes has been quick and painless. Routine online classes are being conducted in a structured manner with comprehensive syllabus coverage. We ensure he attends classes regularly and invests substantial time in research and self-study. We also make it a point to oversee his academic progress in all subjects and engage in frank conversations with him.” — Dr. Divya Shetty, professor of orthodontics at ITS Dental College, Muradnagar, Ghaziabad.

“Thanks to the efforts of her school teachers and mentors, my daughter Akshya Suryavanshi (class XI) has developed the skills to engage with new-age technologies and digital tools. Notes provided by them are elaborate and self-explanatory. Teachers also spare time for discussions and problem-solving. My daughter is a responsible child and her work is the result of her own efforts and skills, which I believe has made her competent to self-study and adapt to digital online classes. I have also signed her up for external coaching so she can discuss difficult topics with experts and understand concepts in detail.” — Sapna Kumar, assistant professor, IMS, Ghaziabad

“My daughter Trisha Jain (class IX) is well-organised, responsible, and invests substantial time in academics. We are thankful to Gurukul’s dedicated team of teachers and commend the communication culture of teachers, parents and students. We also extend our gratitude to the school’s sustained effort to ensure learning continuity of children after the Covid pandemic hit India in March 2020. As parents, we take keen interest in our daughter’s progression, assessments and overall development. To provide her with the best ambience for learning at home, we have equipped her study room with the latest digital technologies and high-speed Internet.” — Sumit Jain, consultant at TCS Ltd, Lyon (France)

“In my opinion, this academic year should be smooth sailing for children including my daughter Vidita Singh (class XII) as the CBSE examination board has reduced the syllabus. The latest CBSE guidelines have split the academic session into two terms. The mandate to cover half the syllabus of each term will certainly ease children’s workload in these testing pandemic times. Moreover, the school management and teachers have extended full support to children towards their preparation for the final examinations.” — Deepti Jain, accounts officer, BSNL, Ghaziabad.
