Mount Carmel College, Bengaluru admitted its first batch of 50 women students on July 7, 1948. The all-women’s college offers undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes across the faculties arts, science, home science and commerce. The college has been awarded ‘A+’ accreditation and five stars by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council. In 2006, the University Grants Commission identified it as a College with Potential for Excellence (CPE). The college also enjoys ‘autonomous’ status. The college is managed by the Congregation of the Carmelite Sisters of Sr. Teresa of St. Rose of Lima. It’s ultimate aim is to empower women with the help of education.
The college’s vision is to equip students through value-based, quality-driven, and holistic-oriented education with a vision to uplift society, and to empower the socially and economically marginalized while simultaneously, creating a ‘Civilization of Love’. The college motto is “Ad Jesum per Mariam” or “To Jesus through Mary”.
The college is spread over an area of 256,256 square feet with many gardens, trees, and open spaces. The classrooms are spacious and well ventilated. The campus comprises well-equipped labs, seminar and lecture rooms, auditoria and conference halls, canteen and kiosks, a stationery shop open during college hours, a chapel and a prayer room for students and faculty of various faiths.
Three well-stocked libraries cater to the needs of pre-university, degree and undergraduate and postgraduate students with more than 91,000 books, 150 periodicals, 15 newspapers, 2000 CDs and DVDs and internet facility. The college also provides photocopy services.
Other facilities available on campus include a rest room for the faculty, a non-residential student center, a branch of UCO Bank, a well-equipped gym that students can use by paying a nominal monthly fee. The college also has qualified counselors on campus.

The MCC placement cell conducts various activities such as workshops, seminars, mock interviews and placement training throughout the year which give students an insight into various career opportunities. MCC conducts its annual placement drive from August.
2019-20 placement highlights: the 2019-20 placement drive saw a record-breaking placement percentage of 100%. Top recruiting companies among leading MNCs included Google, IBM, Accenture, Goldman Sachs, Capgemini. The highest salary package was recorded at INR 7.5 LPA while the average package stood at INR 4.3 LPA.

Mount Carmel College was the first women’s college in Karnataka and the first women’s college to start PGDBA in India. It was also the first in Karnataka to start the NCC wing.
The college was also selected for the India Study Abroad Program by the University of Massachusetts Lowell and Northern Essex and by the ICCR and Educational Consultants (India) for foreign students. The college has also won the Dr. Job Memorial Award for “Excellent and Innovative Programs”.
Mount Carmel College has been ranked among the top 20 schools in the EducationWorld India Autonomous Colleges Rankings 2020-21.
