Four student leaders at Government Holkar Science College in Indore have been expelled for locking 150 people, including the principal and professors, inside a hall after being denied permission to hold a Holi celebration on campus, officials said on Friday.
The incident occurred on Monday, prompting an official inquiry by the district administration. Following the investigation, Principal Anamika Jain confirmed that the college’s disciplinary committee expelled the students and instructed them to collect their transfer certificates.
According to the investigation report, the student leaders had put up posters on February 23, announcing a Holi event on March 7 without the principal’s approval. When the administration removed the posters, the students staged a protest on February 24, escalating the situation.
During the protest, the students allegedly locked the doors of Yashwant Hall from outside and cut off the power supply, leaving 150 people trapped inside for nearly 30 minutes. Among those inside were Principal Anamika Jain, professors, and other staff members.
The report described the incident as a serious act of indiscipline and recommended strict action against the four student leaders, who were later found guilty by the disciplinary panel.
The expelled students had planned to organize ‘Holkar Ka Holi Fest’ on March 7, featuring DJ performances, a rain dance, and an entry fee of ₹150. The event was sponsored by a coaching institute for civil services aspirants.
Despite the college administration denying permission, the students went ahead and advertised the event, putting up promotional posters across campus.
Established in 1891 by the Holkar rulers of Indore, Holkar Science College is one of the region’s most prestigious institutions. The administration has reaffirmed its commitment to discipline and student accountability, ensuring such incidents are not repeated in the future.
