MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology (MSRIT), Bangalore, is a private autonomous co-educational college affiliated with the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belgaum. Founded in 1962 by the late Dr. M.S. Ramaiah, a renowned visionary and philanthropist, it has been approved by the Delhi-based All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Part of Gokula Education Foundation, India, MSRIT has churned out around 35,000 engineering professionals so far.
The institute offers education that is in sync with the industry and has collaborated with various leading technological companies across the world to help students get practical exposure, internships and placements. These companies include Intel, Adobe systems, EMC2, International Business Machine and Schneider Electric.
There is a separate training and placement cell in the college to ensure that all students are made ready to face interviews and bag good placements. The college also has its own Entrepreneur Development Cell to encourage innovative ideas.
M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bangalore, is sited at MSR Nagar, over a sprawling campus spread across 25 acres. The state-of-the-art infrastructure of MSRIT includes a wi-fi enabled campus, well-equipped modern laboratories, high-tech auditoriums, spacious air-conditioned conference halls with audio-visual aids, dedicated sports complex and facilities for sports like cricket, basketball, football, and badminton. Extra-curricular activities
Students at M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bangalore, have a choice of sports they can pursue, managed by a dedicated Department of Physical Education. The college has facilities for sports like cricket, basketball, football, and badminton. Gymnasiums encourage students to stay fit.
The college hosts various sports events like the M.S. Ramaiah Memorial Cricket Tournament, M.S. Ramaiah Memorial Table Tennis Tournament, and Annual Athletic Meet at inter and intra college levels.
Various activities are also promoted through interest-specific clubs such as the Robotics Club, Royal Society of Civil Engineers, Vrglinug (Linux users group) and social service activities promoted through the National Social Service (NSS) scheme.
Admission to the undergraduate programmes is through a competitive entrance test as well as quota for general category students with 50 percent marks in science and mathematics and 45 percent for students belonging to scheduled castes/scheduled tribes and other backward classes.
For students residing in Karnataka, the affiliating university, Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology, Belgaum, holds a Common Entrance Test (CET, details of which are available with the website of Karnataka Examination Authority – www.kea.kar.nic.in – in February/March)on behalf of the state of Karnataka’s Examination Authority. The COMED-K test is a combined test held by private medical engineering and dental colleges of Karnataka and both Karnataka and non-Karnataka students are eligible to sit for this test (details of which are available on its respective website www.comedk.org during the month of February/March.
There is a management quota for which candidates need to apply to the college (details can be obtained from the office during May/June) and supernumerary quota (for children of employees in gulf countries, persons of Indian origin and foreign nationals, details of which need to be obtained from the college office during April/May).
For candidates seeking admission to B. Arch., they need to successfully complete the test conducted by the Council of Architecture. Other details are available on the council’s website www.nata.in or www.niasa.org .
Admission to Masters and Doctorate level programmes other than MBA and MCA is through the state-conducted Postgraduate Common Entrance Test (PGCET – details available on www.kea.kar.nic.in during June).
For admission to MBA and MCA, candidates need to write the competitive exams (KMAT OR Karnataka Management Aptitude Test). Check www.kmatindia.com for details during June. The institute also considers scores of candidates qualifying the AICTE-conducted CMAT or Common Management Aptitude Test.
