National Institute of Technology, Warangal (NITW), formerly known as the Regional Engineering College, Warangal (RECW) is a public technological institute located in Warangal, Telangana. The foundation stone laid by Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru in 1959, it is the first of the 30 NITs in the country and was renamed as the National Institute of Technology, Warangal in 2002. It is recognised as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India and boasts a self-contained campus sited on a 256 acre plot amidst verdant surroundings.
NITW is a residential institute with nearly 3355 students enrolled in its undergraduate and postgraduate programs, 269 PhD students, 200 teaching and 360 administrative and supportive staff. The institute’s placement service is one of the best in the country.
Sprawling over 256 acres, the NITW campus hosts an administrative building, academic building, library building, students’ hostel, sports gallery, staff quarters and guest house. It is located on either side of Hyderabad-Warangal highway at a distance of three km from Kajipet railway station and 12 km from Warangal railway station. It has 16 residential blocks including one mega and one ultra-mega hostel for boys, two hostels for girls and one for foreign students.
Other facilities include 100 laboratories, a central library with world class facilities, a state-of-the art auditorium, student activity centre, mega computer centre, an indoor games complex, a large stadium, a seminar hall and a dispensary.

2021 placement highlights: N.V. Ramana Rao (NIT Warangal director) announced that a total of 600 B.Tech. and 200 PG students got placed in the 2021 placement drive. The highest CTC was recorded at INR 51.5 LPA while a CTC of more than INR 20 LPA was offered to 130 students. NITW also conducted its summer internship placement drive for the 2022 batch with a highest stipend of INR 1.6 lakhs. Top recruiters included Amazon, Accenture, Microsoft, Adobe Ltd, Oracle India Pvt. Ltd, etc.

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranked NIT Warangal 19th among engineering colleges in India in 2020 and 46th overall.
The Institute provides residential facilities for all the students admitted to the various courses. There are twenty hostel blocks (halls of residence) for men and two for women.
Hostel administration is managed by a chief warden and a team of wardens drawn from the faculty and appointed by the director on a tenure basis. The hostel advisory council headed by the director is responsible for major policy decisions with respect to the hostel administration. The hostel executive committee takes decisions on routine matters. Students have representation on both the administrative bodies. Hostel office has full-fledged supporting staff and other workers.
