Overview

National Institute of Technology, Warangal (NITW), formerly known as the Regional Engineering College, Warangal (RECW) is a public technological institute located in Warangal, Telangana. The foundation stone laid by Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru in 1959, it is the first of the 30 NITs in the country and was renamed as the National Institute of Technology, Warangal in 2002. It is recognised as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India and boasts a self-contained campus sited on a 256 acre plot amidst verdant surroundings.

NITW is a residential institute with nearly 3355 students enrolled in its undergraduate and postgraduate programs, 269 PhD students, 200 teaching and 360 administrative and supportive staff. The institute’s placement service is one of the best in the country.

Campus

Sprawling over 256 acres, the NITW campus hosts an administrative building, academic building, library building, students’ hostel, sports gallery, staff quarters and guest house. It is located on either side of Hyderabad-Warangal highway at a distance of three km from Kajipet railway station and 12 km from Warangal railway station. It has 16 residential blocks including one mega and one ultra-mega hostel for boys, two hostels for girls and one for foreign students.

Other facilities include 100 laboratories, a central library with world class facilities, a state-of-the art auditorium, student activity centre, mega computer centre, an indoor games complex, a large stadium, a seminar hall and a dispensary.

Placements:

NITW’S Centre for Career Planning and Development (CCPD) provides a launch pad for students to get recruited by the best organizations in the fields of software, core industries, management, etc. Over 15-180 of the biggest names in the corporate world visit the campus on a regular basis, with enviable recruitment offers. The CCPD boasts of maintaining an excellent rapport with a wide spectrum of companies spread across various industry sectors, and has strong relationship with industries across the country and as a result, has built up an impressive placement record both in terms of percentage of registered students placed, as well as the number of companies visiting the campus.

Placement procedure:

• The CCPD sends invitation and campus placement notification forms to employers which provides the employer requirements to students. Interested students are sent to the recruiters.
• Eligible students are shortlisted by the recruiters, and the CCPD assigns dates for the employer’s visit on campus for pre-placement talks followed by the placement procedure.
• Preliminary online examinations are conducted for students. After the selection procedure, employers announce final results to CCPD and recruit qualifying candidates.

2021 placement highlights:  N.V. Ramana Rao (NIT Warangal director) announced that a total of 600 B.Tech. and 200 PG students got placed in the 2021 placement drive. The highest CTC was recorded at INR 51.5 LPA while a CTC of more than INR 20 LPA was offered to 130 students. NITW also conducted its summer internship placement drive for the 2022 batch with a highest stipend of INR 1.6 lakhs. Top recruiters included Amazon, Accenture, Microsoft, Adobe Ltd, Oracle India Pvt. Ltd, etc.

Admission

Undergraduate Admission (B.Tech.)

Selection Criteria: JEE (Main) score/rank

Eligibility: 10+2 in science stream (PCM) from a recognized board with a minimum aggregate of 60% in qualifying exams.

Admission Procedure:

• Candidates must register for JEE (Main), submit required documents and personal information and pay the application fees and appear for the entrance exam.
• After obtaining a valid score, candidates must register and appear for JoSSA counselling.
• Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of seats assigned by JoSSA in the counselling process (depending on candidate’s JEE main rank/score). After securing a seat in NITW in the chosen/allotted department, candidates may confirm their admission by the verification of documents and payment of fees.

Postgraduate Admission (M.Tech.)

Selection Criteria: GATE scores

Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree (B.E./B.Tech.) in the relevant discipline from a recognized institution with a minimum aggregate of 60% in graduation.

Admission Procedure:

• Candidates must register for GATE, submit required documents and personal information and pay the application fees and appear for the entrance exam.
• After obtaining a valid score, candidates must register (fill application form and pay registration fees) and appear for the CCMT counselling.
• Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of seats assigned in the CCMT counselling process (depending on candidate’s GATE rank/score). After securing a seat in NITW in the chosen/allotted department, candidates may confirm their admission by the verification of documents and payment of fees.

Postgraduate Admission (M.Sc.)

Selection Criteria: IIT JAM scores.

Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc.) in the relevant discipline from a recognized institution with a minimum aggregate of 60% in graduation.

Admission Procedure:

• Candidates must register for IIT JAM, submit required documents and personal information and pay the application fees and appear for the entrance exam.
• After obtaining a valid score, candidates must register (fill application form and pay registration fees) and appear for the CCMN counselling.
• Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of seats assigned in the CCMN counselling process (depending on candidate’s IIT JAM scores). After securing a seat in NITW in the chosen/allotted department, candidates may confirm their admission by the verification of documents and payment of fees.

Postgraduate Admission (M.C.A.)

Selection Criteria: NIMCET scores

Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree with mathematics as a mandatory subject from a recognized institution with a minimum aggregate of 60% in graduation

Admission Procedure:

• Candidates must register for NIMCET, submit required documents and personal information and pay the application fees and appear for the entrance exam.
• After obtaining a valid score, candidates must register and appear for the NIMCET counselling.
• Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of seats assigned in the NIMCET counselling process (depending on candidate’s NIMCET scores). After securing a seat in NITW in the chosen/allotted department, candidates may confirm their admission by the verification of documents and payment of fees.

Postgraduate Admission (M.B.A.)

Selection Criteria: CAT scores and performance in group discussion and personal interview round.

Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree in the relevant discipline from a recognized institution with a minimum aggregate of 60% in graduation, and valid CAT/MAT/CMAT/GMAT scores.

Admission Procedure:

• Candidates must register for CAT, submit required documents and personal information and pay the application fees and appear for the entrance exam.
• After obtaining a valid CAT score, candidates have to appear for the group discussion and private interview round.
• Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of CAT scores and performance in the group discussion and private interview. Shortlisted candidates may confirm their admission by the verification of documents and payment of fees.

Doctoral Admission (Ph.D.)

Selection Criteria: GATE/UGC/CSIR/INSPIRE/NET scores and performance in university-conducted written test and interview.

Eligibility: Graduate in relevant stream/discipline from a recognised university with valid GATE/UGC/CSIR/INSPIRE/NET scores.

Admission Procedure:

• Candidates must register for admissions to the selected course from the official NITW website and pay the application fees along with the submission of required information and documents.
• Candidates with valid GATE/UGC/CSIR/INSPIRE/NET scores will have to write a written test, clearing which they will be invited for an interview.
• Candidates will be shortlisted based on performance in the written test and interview. Shortlisted candidates may confirm their admission by the verification of documents and payment of fees.

Achievement

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranked NIT Warangal 19th among engineering colleges in India in 2020 and 46th overall.

Accommodation

The Institute provides residential facilities for all the students admitted to the various courses. There are twenty hostel blocks (halls of residence) for men and two for women.

Hostel administration is managed by a chief warden and a team of wardens drawn from the faculty and appointed by the director on a tenure basis. The hostel advisory council headed by the director is responsible for major policy decisions with respect to the hostel administration. The hostel executive committee takes decisions on routine matters. Students have representation on both the administrative bodies. Hostel office has full-fledged supporting staff and other workers.
