The National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) will triple its textbook publication this year, producing 15 crore books, as announced by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday during a Letter of Engagement signing with Amazon.
Pradhan highlighted NCERT’s long-standing role in shaping India’s education since 1963, with approximately 220 crore books and journals published. He noted that these textbooks would be available across nearly 20,000 pin codes nationwide at the maximum retail price.
Emphasizing the need to make learning enjoyable for the 300 million students of the Amrit Kaal, he called for the development of interactive and AI-driven e-books, including features like talking books.
Officials revealed that NCERT textbooks for all grades would be accessible on the newly launched Amazon NCERT storefront. Prices will be limited to the printed rates, ensuring only original NCERT books are sold, thus reducing the sale of counterfeit textbooks.
“Amazon will assist NCERT in monitoring unauthorized sellers distributing counterfeit or overpriced books. Its extensive delivery network will enable students and schools, even in remote areas, to access textbooks at the prescribed prices,” stated a senior education ministry official.
In addition to individual sales, Amazon will streamline bulk ordering for government agencies and schools, facilitating large-scale textbook procurement. The NCERT has appointed designated distribution vendors to collaborate with Amazon sellers for timely deliveries.
“Amazon is trusted by millions of Indians for making essential products accessible, and quality education should be no exception,” said Saurabh Srivastava, Vice President, Categories, Amazon India. He emphasized that by ensuring genuine NCERT textbooks are available at fair prices, Amazon is contributing to a more transparent and reliable educational ecosystem, making it easier for students, parents, and educators to access necessary resources.
