In the financial year 2024-25, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is set to undertake comprehensive initiatives to enhance educational facilities, signaling a commitment to modernizing infrastructure and fostering a holistic learning environment. One of the pivotal aspects of this plan is the distribution of 9,000 computer tablets to students across all NDMC-run schools. This move is poised to significantly benefit the educational experience of approximately 9,000 students, with the distribution to be completed within the fiscal year. Remarkably, NDMC is poised to become the first municipal body to carry out such an extensive tablet distribution program.
Furthermore, NDMC envisions substantial improvements in sports training infrastructure across its educational institutions. With a focus on inclusivity and professional coaching, the council plans to provide part-time sports coaches for a variety of sports, including cricket, hockey, football, volleyball, basketball, badminton, boxing, lawn tennis, table tennis, and wrestling. This initiative aims to offer students a well-rounded and enriching sports education experience.
The commitment to creating a conducive learning environment extends to the introduction of nature-based classrooms. NDMC is actively progressing with plans to set up such classrooms in ten of its schools. The tendering process for this initiative is currently underway, with work expected to be awarded by March 2024. Additionally, the collaboration with the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) to redesign school uniforms reflects a forward-thinking approach. Students with a keen interest in fashion technology will have the opportunity to assist NIFT designers, fostering practical learning experiences.
NDMC is taking significant steps to enhance overall educational governance by appointing consultants for education and sports. These consultants will play crucial roles in implementing technological interventions in education and addressing infrastructure needs for sports facilities. Moreover, the council is set to appoint estate managers for each school from among faculty members, enhancing accountability for the maintenance and improvement of school infrastructure.
On the recreational front, NDMC’s commitment to community well-being is evident in its initiative to lay synthetic tracks in parks. Following the success of the EPDM-based synthetic rubber tracks at Nehru Park, a similar project is planned for Sanjay Park in the upcoming fiscal year, spanning a length of 1.3 km at an estimated cost of Rs 1.60 crore.
In sum, NDMC’s multi-faceted approach to educational and recreational enhancements reflects a comprehensive commitment to nurturing a vibrant and conducive learning environment for students while promoting overall well-being in the community.
