New India Education Summit (NIES Edition 2.0, Delhi NCR Chapter)

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in its introduction states that ‘education is fundamental for achieving full human potential, developing an equitable and just society, and promoting national development’. The tools for reinventing curriculums and pedagogies in schools aim to be holistic, integrated, enjoyable and engaging.

Delhi Public School, Sec 45, Gurgaon hosted the New India Education Summit (NIES Edition 2.0, Delhi NCR Chapter) on February 25. NIES 2.0 was centered around the theme: ‘Enabling India’s Aspirations with the NCF’. The summit provided a platform for stakeholders across the education spectrum to engage in dialogue over the future of education in India.

The pre-event informal get together for educators was hosted by Devyani Jaipuria, the Pro-Vice Chairperson, DPS Sector 45, Gurgaon, at her residence. She welcomed all her guests and took active part in discussions on the dynamics of Indian education. A visionary and forward thinking philanthropist, Devyani Jaipuria is looking forward to positive changes in the education system which echoes her belief of affordable and quality education for all. NEP 2020 aims to curtail dropout rates and ensure universal access to education at all levels.

Aditi Misra, Director Principal, DPS Gurgaon, made a welcome speech and thanked Anurag Tripathi, Secretary CBSE, for his unstinted support in all the school’s endeavours. Speaking on the occasion, Anurag Tripathi stressed the need to take NEP 2020 to the children and parents after reading, understanding and researching. He urged educators to customise the document to the needs of their respective schools. Dr. Ameeta Mulla Wattal, Chairperson, DLF Foundation Schools concurred: “NEP is an evolution of knowledge which will bridge the gap between thinking and doing.”

Dr. Arunabh Singh, Chief Mentor, Final Chapter NIES and Director, Nehru World School, Ghaziabad set the context and invited Lt. Gen. Surendra Kulkarni, Director, Mayo College, Ajmer to share his thoughts. Ratnesh Kumar Jha, CEO India and South Asia, Burlington Group of Companies, spoke about the NCF Foundational Stage. “85 percent of the impact is made at the foundation stage and therefore each word of NCF 2022 needs to be pragmatic and effective. Mihir Gupta, co-founder and CEO, Teach Mint, spoke about the role of technology in education. The event was also graced by senior leaders and educators including.Sandeep Sethi, Director (Education), MSMSII Museum Trust, Jaipur, Dr.Bharti & Deepak Madhok, co-founders of the Sunbeam Group of Educational Institutions (SGEI), Varanasi; Amrita Burman, Dy. Director, SGEI, Varanasi, and Madhav Deo Saraswat, Principal, The Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet.

The participants discussed the National Curriculum Frameworks in breakout rooms with their respective mentors who included Anand Krishnaswamy, Innovator, Strategist and Educationist for NCF-ECCE, Dr. Arunabh Singh for NCF-school education and Anju & Pascal Chazot, Co-founders Mahatma Gandhi International School, Ahmedabad for NCF-teachers education. The findings of each group were shared with the audience. Aditi Misra gave the vote of thanks on behalf of Delhi Public School, Gurgaon.

The National Education Policy envisions an education system rooted in Indian ethos that contributes directly to transforming the country into an equitable and vibrant knowledge society, by providing high-quality education to all, and thereby making India a global knowledge super power.

Aimed at making education a basic right for children, NEP 2020 is the hope of a new India. It was the privilege of Delhi Public School, Sector 45, Gurgaon to deliver the 6th and Final Chapter of the New India Education Summit attended by over 100 school leaders. The participants of the 6 NIES will now draft a white paper incorporating their suggestions and present it to the education ministry.
