The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has cancelled the 2021 class 10 public examinations while postponing the class 12 exams in view of the rising COVID-19 cases in the country. The theory and practical exams for both classes were scheduled to be held in June 2021.
A notification brought out by the NIOS today states while the institution would keep a watch on the situation, it would review the possibility of holding the class 12 exams by June 20, 2021. Students would be intimated about examinations through an official notification 15 days prior to the date of exams.
The notification further mentioned, the NIOS would come up with a suitable criterion for class 10 students’ assessment and announce results while keeping the best interests of the learners in mind. The NIOS will allow learners who are unsatisfied with the computed results to appear for public examinations again or even appear for an on-demand examination as and when the situation becomes conducive to holding of exams. In the first week of May, the institute had declared the results for the NIOS on-demand class 10 and 12 exams conducted from March 16-31,2021.
The New-Delhi based NIOS provides an alternative platform to the formal schooling process allowing interested learners to get school to pre-degree level education through the open learning and distance learning systems. NIOS is the largest open schooling system in the world with cumulative enrolment of 4.13 million (during the last five years).
