No compromise on education in Delhi government schools: Atishi

July 19, 2024

Delhi Education Minister Atishi asserted on Thursday that the government will not tolerate any compromise in the education of children in its schools. This statement came after the Directorate of Education (DoE) declared over 17,000 Class 9 students as ‘unsuccessful’ for the second time.

Atishi emphasized that every child is important to the government and that ensuring no child is left behind in learning is a top priority. She directed officials to immediately address any teacher shortages in government schools for the new session.

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sahdeva criticized the AAP government, stating that the failure of so many Class 9 students exposes the education minister’s claims of providing world-class education. Sahdeva accused the government of deliberately failing weak students in Classes 9 and 11 to improve board exam results in Classes 10 and 12.

The DoE has instructed government schools to enroll students who have failed Class 9 twice into the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) for the 2024-25 academic session. Data shows 17,308 students have been declared ‘unsuccessful’ for the second time, with only 6,200 currently enrolling through the NIOS portal.

Atishi highlighted the role of school principals as leaders who drive grassroots change and praised their efforts in improving student performance through counseling, parental involvement, and innovative methods. She reiterated the significant progress made by city government schools over the past decade and their aim to rank among the top schools globally.
