No NEET-UG paper leak; corruption claims against NTA unfounded: Education Minister

June 13, 2024

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan dismissed allegations of a NEET-UG paper leak, stating there is no evidence to support these claims and affirming that the government is ensuring no student is disadvantaged.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced the NEET-UG results on June 4. Pradhan emphasized the credibility of the NTA, which conducts exams for over 50 lakh school and higher education students annually.

On the same day, the NTA informed the Supreme Court that the decision to award grace marks to 1,563 NEET-UG candidates was cancelled, offering them a re-test on June 23. If these candidates opt out of the re-test, their original scores, without grace marks, will be used.

Pradhan clarified that the initial grace marks were based on a Supreme Court formula. He assured that any anomalies would be addressed to ensure fairness for all students. The education ministry has set up a four-member panel to review the grace marks issue, headed by former UPSC chairman Pradeep Kumar Joshi.

Despite criticisms of the NTA over alleged irregularities and inflated marks, the Supreme Court did not halt the counselling process, which will begin on July 6, with re-test results to be declared on June 30.
