West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata has bagged an A + grade in the seven-point evaluation scale of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
This is the first NAAC accreditation obtained by the law school established 25 years ago.
According to NUJS vice-chancellor, Nirmal Kanti Chakrabarti, “NUJS Kolkata has been accredited with A+ grade. This is valid for five years. The CGPA ( Cumulative Grade Point Average) is 3.32 in the seven-point evaluation scale.” The highest grade is A++.
“The strength of NUJS as observed by NAAC peer team is that NUJS continuously innovates its academic offerings to meet the evolving demands of the legal landscape,” the vice-chancellor said.
The recent introduction of L.LM in Technology and Law, M.Sc forensic science and B.Sc LL.B (Hons) in criminology and forensic science underscores the university’s commitment to society and cutting-edge legal education issues.”
Some strategic alliances of NUJS with national and international stakeholders include institutions like, Cambridge University, Kings College London, Herbert Smith Freehills Loondon, Cognizant Bangalorw, Gamez Kraft, IIT Kharagpur, IISER Kolkata, IIT Kalyani , Jadavpur University, Calcutta University, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Univetsity etc.Even in undergraduate courses students are being offered courses on Artificial Intelligence, Air and Space Law, Fintech, forensic science, psychology, criminal psychology, law and literature.
According to the vice-chancellor in order to obtain the highest A ++ Grade, an institute is required 3.50 CGPA score. The univetsity was assessed on various parameters such as curricular aspects, teaching learning evaluation, research innovation, infrastructure and resources, student support and progression, governance and leadership and best practices.
“We have performed well in all the areas. But our score in infrastructure development and research was slightly lower than what we scored in other areas. We will try to upgrade out facilities to obtain the highest A ++ Grade in the next cycle,” Chakrabarti told EducationWorld.
A five-member NAAC team visited NUJS last month as a part of the process of accreditation. The team conducted an inspection of the institute founded by NR Madhav Menon, the pioneer of modern legal education in India.
