PW invited parents of Vista International School, Hyderabad to share insights on how they are helping their children transform into global citizens
“We make an effort to provide our son Anirudh T. (class X) maximum exposure to different cultures and communities through domestic and international travel, books and films. My son has lately taken to learning new languages, which will help him immensely in the future. It also helps that his environment at school and our social circle, nurture the ideologies of global oneness. Rooted to Indian traditions, and supported by knowledge of world geography, I believe this generation can bring the world together for the better” — Shri Ramya, educator
“It is important for children to adapt to global cultures given that talent is recognised worldwide. Our son Vedant (class X) has been pursuing sports from youngest age so he can easily blend in wherever he goes with minimal barriers. Our frequent travelling to distant lands has also helped him experience and learn about different people, cultures, cuisines and so on. Vedant is adept at making new friends and striking conversations. Moreover, we are all now focusing on learning a foreign language” — Radhika Kuppili, HR professional
“Some ways in which our daughter Advaitha (class IX) is gradually transforming into a global citizen are through extensive travel within the country and abroad, reading books from different parts of the world, and learning foreign languages to connect with fellow global citizens. We also taught her to be empathetic and open-minded towards people from different cultures and backgrounds. In fact every year, Advaitha volunteers for humanitarian causes in different parts of the world” — Nagasree Mamidipally, educator
“Learning multiple languages has taught my daughter Hanshika (class IX) to respect cultural diversity of the global community. Moreover, we make it a point to have routine conversations to promote social justice globally and celebrate festivals observed around the world. Hanshika invests considerable time exploring real world issues including the complexity of global challenges and engaging with multiple perspectives etc” — Shailaja, educator
