In a tragic incident in Odisha’s Bolangir district, a class 10 student reportedly died by suicide just hours before the commencement of the annual state board examination on Tuesday, according to local police reports. The distressing occurrence unfolded at Viswatma S Vidyamandir in the Kamakshi Nagar area, where the deceased student, originally from Taliudar village, was slated to appear for the examination at the Bhagaban Bidya Mandir center in Khujenpali.

The young boy was found hanging in the washroom by hostel inmates in the morning. Despite immediate efforts to rush him to the hospital, medical professionals declared him dead upon arrival.

Expressing bewilderment over the tragic incident, the hostel warden, Sambit Kumar, mentioned that the deceased student was known for his academic excellence, and there appeared to be no apparent pressure on him from the school.

Meanwhile, the annual matriculation (class 10) examinations for the year 2024, conducted by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) Odisha, kicked off across the state at 10 am. Approximately 5.51 lakh students are expected to participate in the examinations at 3,047 designated centers. The High School Certificate (HSC) Examination is scheduled to continue until March 4.
