Odisha Governor Raghubar Das announced on Monday that the state government will fill 1.5 lakh vacant government posts in a fair and transparent manner, with 65,000 positions to be filled within the next two years.
During the inaugural session of the 17th Odisha Legislative Assembly, Das highlighted the government’s plan to prioritize industries such as automobile, electric vehicles (EV), semiconductors, and IT/ITES under the ‘Make in Odisha’ initiative. This move aims to transform Odisha into a manufacturing hub and generate over 3.5 lakh jobs by 2029.
The governor emphasized the importance of skill development and apprenticeship opportunities for youth, as well as fostering entrepreneurial initiatives among SC and ST communities. He also outlined plans to create 25 lakh successful women entrepreneurs (lakhpati Didis) by 2027 through industrial clusters for self-help groups (SHGs) and support for product marketing and promotion.
Addressing education, Das announced the adoption of a state-level policy aligned with the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP-2020) to tackle challenges like teacher vacancies and limited access to digital learning. The reforms will include introducing legal, medical, and engineering courses in Odia.
The state will also formulate policies for flood control, climate strategy, and green industrial incentives. Das emphasized the government’s commitment to a vision of “Viksit Odisha for a Viksit Bharat” with a focus on reform, performance, and transformation.
In healthcare, the state plans to implement the Ayushman Bharat scheme, appoint 3,000 new doctors, and equip each community healthcare centre (CHC) with a mobile health unit. Additionally, the government aims to build 10 lakh rural houses and 5 lakh urban houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and launch a new scheme for low-income groups not covered under PMAY.
Other initiatives include constructing Odia Samudaya Bhawans in major cities and implementing a ‘senior citizen first’ policy to prioritize benefits and services for the elderly. Das concluded by urging legislative members to cooperate for the comprehensive growth and progress of all sections of society in Odisha.
