On Tuesday, the Union Minister for Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Dharmendra Pradhan, inaugurated India’s first Skill India Centre (SIC). Emphasizing the need for a skilled workforce in the 21st century to drive the nation’s development, he mentioned that new-age and future skills are often costly in global markets.
To address this, the Centre aims to democratize access to quality education, providing a level playing field for aspiring youth. During the inauguration of the Skill India Centre (SIC), the Union minister stated that the introduction of affordable courses would empower a large number of youth, integrating them into the evolving job market.
Pradhan expressed the intent to lead skill training programs in new-age job roles, enhancing the skill set of the ‘Amrit Peedhi’ and aiming to empower over 1,200 students through this centre.
Aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, the first Skill India Centre in Odisha at Sambalpur was inaugurated to equip the young population with employable skills in high-demand trades. This initiative seeks to create an industry-ready workforce, foster entrepreneurship, and strengthen the skilling ecosystem, acting as a catalyst for prosperity.
The Skill India Centre in Sambalpur focuses on trades such as Media & Entertainment, Leather, Tourism & Hospitality, and IT-ITeS. Subsequent centres in Angul, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Talcher, and Deogarh, set to be inaugurated, target high economic growth sectors, addressing specific skill needs to drive regional development and create sustainable employment opportunities, according to an official release.
