Online Parenting Summit, parent success story: Sonia Sunil

Online parenting Summit (OPS) 2021 elaborates on various methods of parenting, a celebration of parenthood. The summit helps to reboot parenting and develop a friendly relationship between parents and their children. The concept of OPS is to create an impact on parents and their parenting styles. OPS aims to touch the universe and beyond, impact every generation that may come further. Until now, people practiced parenting in their own traditional ways but OPS tries to bring in modern ways in which one can make the parenting experience much more fun yet unique.

Here is the story of Sonia Sunil, who talks about her journey as a parent.

My name is Sonia Sunil and I am blessed with twin daughters Sudhiksha and Siddhiksha Sunil. They are three and a half years old. I live in Bangalore in a joint family where my daughters spend most of the time with their grandparents. Presently, I am a homemaker. Due to this pandemic, I have realised that life is too unexpected and short. Life has taught me to be grateful for everything. I started being more conscious and mindful about my thoughts, feelings and behaviour as a parent and in general. This was the time I started enjoying every little moment and each day with my daughters. They gradually became more playful. The most delightful moment of my life is when my toddlers jump into the “super rescue team mode” to help me fight the gloom away and say, “Don’t get scared, Chhota Bheem is here.”

They together cheer me up by saying “Mamma no sad, be happy” and this fills my heart to the fullest. I will never force my twin daughters to forcefully do anything, be it classes or sports just because everyone else is doing it. I never compare my kids with others or even with each other, as everyone is unique and different. Forcing or comparing them will only quash the originality and their interest. In fact, it would be my pleasure to encourage them to pursue whatever they’re interested in apart from the mainstream courses and careers. I want them to cherish their lives as they are different individuals, sovereign beings. They have their own purpose of existence and I don’t own my kids.

My special moments are when I see both my girls showing kindness and compassion to other living beings such as animals, insects, birds and plants. They help them in whatever way possible.

It makes us feel very proud of them for being so nurturing, caring towards other beings. They become very concerned when someone is hurt or even when they hear an ambulance siren. They are courteous to all other family members and outsiders too.

We share a close-knit relationship and understanding among ourselves. I try and evolve myself so that my girls can come to me with their problems in any situation. I see myself striving to be an emotional coach and help them to identify their emotions, regulate and handle it appropriately. This was all about my parenting journey and I am eager to attend the online parenting Summit 2021 as it could help me clear all my doubts fears and hindrances.
