At Civil Services Examination 2017 (CSE-2017), the results of which were announced by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) recently, two of the top 10 rank holders and 120 students who cracked the exams, took online courses from NeoStencil – India’s leading ed-tech venture that offers live classrooms for civil services and other public competetive exams. The successful candidates had enrolled for NeoStencil’s online courses taught by over 60 teachers on the live-learning platform.
This year, the top 10 rank holders hailed from 8 different states including Telangana, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, UP and Rajasthan. Traditionally, aspirants from across the country have two choices – either relocate to Delhi, the coaching mecca for IAS preparation, or study from a local, typically sub-par teacher in their own town.
With the digital wave in India making inroads into even far flung and remote places, more and more aspirants are turning to technology for exam preparation. To cite an example, Ilma Afroz, who belongs to a small town named Kundarki in district Moradabad (UP) signed up for online courses from the ed-tech platform NeoStencil to aid her civil services preparation. Ilma had to seek the help of technology because there were no options of quality classroom coaching in the remote town where she lives. Her grit, hardwork and effective use of technology enabled her to secure All India Rank 217.
Even students who reside in coaching hubs see value in online education. Saumya Sharma (AIR-9) chose NeoStencil’s online courses despite belonging to Delhi. This helped her save time travelling to and from coaching centres, and waiting for teachers to start classes.
Considering other online players in India’s civil services preparation sector such as Byju’s, Unacademy and OnlineTyari, the number of successful candidates this year who opted for online coaching will be much higher. This is testimony to the fact that online classes for UPSC exams have emerged as a strong alternative to the traditional preparation methodology. Such ed-tech startups are aiding digital inclusive education and bridging the gap between haves and have-nots by providing aspirants easy and seamless access to the best teachers without the need to relocate or face the hassle of tiring travel. Moreover, experienced teachers are now using such platforms to extend their reach beyond brick and mortar classrooms.
Comments Kush Beejal, co-founder & CEO of NeoStencil, “Our consistent track record year after year shows that we are able to solve a real problem faced by exam aspirants. 100 online selections in 2016, and over 120 in UPSC/CSE 2017 cements the fact that online learning from the best teachers of the country is the way to solve the problem of access to quality education while ensuring learning outcomes”.
