More than 1,400 candidates scored negative marks in the 70th Integrated Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) 2024 conducted by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC), an official revealed on Friday.
The BPSC announced the exam results on Thursday, following weeks of statewide protests over alleged irregularities.
Rajesh Kumar Singh, BPSC Examination Controller, said, “Of the 3,28,990 candidates who appeared for the exam, 21,581 have cleared the preliminary test. However, 1,409 candidates scored negative marks. Only one candidate managed to secure the highest score of 120 out of 150, while 1,181 candidates scored above 100, and 6,344 candidates scored between 90 and 100.”
Singh dismissed claims that the questions were easy, citing statistics to support his argument. “For instance, 1,70,485 candidates incorrectly answered the question about MLA Shreyasi Singh, who represents the Jamui assembly seat and is India’s first sitting legislator to participate in the Olympics (2024). Similarly, 50,503 candidates gave the wrong answer to the location of ‘Takhat Sri Harimandir Ji Patna Sahib.’ Furthermore, 1,49,973 candidates failed to identify Gaya as the city being developed under the Vishnupad Temple corridor scheme.”
As per the rules, candidates lose one mark for every three incorrect answers.
The BPSC exam held on December 13 has faced criticism due to allegations of a question paper leak. A fresh test was ordered for over 12,000 candidates from a Patna exam center.
Singh also noted that a petition seeking the cancellation of the December 13 exam has been filed in the Patna High Court. Ironically, three petitioners challenging the exam have cleared it.
