More than two million students across India have received free access to Google’s advanced AI tools for a year under the Google AI Pro student offer. The initiative provides learners aged 18 and above with tools including Gemini, NotebookLM, Veo 3 in Gemini, and Flow.
Google reported that India is now home to Gemini’s largest global user base of 18–24-year-olds. According to a Google-Kantar study, 95% of student users in India said the app helped boost their confidence, with use cases spanning academic support and early career preparation. Education has also emerged as a leading use case for AI features in Google Search, including Lens and AI Mode.
India has additionally become the top global user of Gemini’s “Guided Learning” feature. The tool offers step-by-step guidance and open-ended questions to support deeper understanding. Google noted that students in India are engaging in extended conversations with the feature, often switching between English and local languages. Usage trends show high engagement in multimodal learning, with students uploading images of complex problems and seeking help across subjects including physics, STEM, programming, and creative skills.
Google also released its position paper, AI and the Future of Learning, outlining its approach to developing responsible AI tools that support improved learning outcomes. The paper highlights LearnLM, Google’s family of Gemini-based learning models developed with education experts and grounded in learning science. Google said LearnLM powers Gemini 2.5 Pro, which it described as the company’s leading model for learning.
