Over 3 crore students registered for the Academic Bank of Credits: UGC

UGC

The University Grants Commission (UGC) reports that over three crore students nationwide have registered on the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) platform. This digital repository facilitates curriculum flexibility and interdisciplinary academic mobility among Indian Higher Educational Institutes (HEIs) by employing a credit transfer system.

The ABC serves as a centralized record of each student’s credits, streamlining access to their scores and simplifying transitions between universities or colleges. A senior UGC official emphasized the importance of this platform for the successful implementation of the National Credit Framework, providing students with increased educational choices.

The ongoing registration process ensures widespread participation, with credits accumulated by students in various courses continuing to be stored in the bank. The UGC is actively encouraging all universities and colleges to ensure every student has an ABC account, closely monitoring compliance.

Students can easily upload their credits, transcripts, and certificates to their academic account. With the recent implementation of a four-year graduation course, students now have the flexibility of multiple entry and exit points during their academic journey.

Previously, students faced challenges in transferring from one institute to another. However, with the National Credit Framework in effect, the transition process has been streamlined, enabling students to shift between institutions seamlessly. Additionally, the provision of multiple entry and exit points allows students to resume their studies as needed, further enhancing the educational landscape.
