Concerns have been expressed by parents of children studying in Madrasas over the quality of education delivered there, minister for primary and secondary education BC Nagesh said.
He was addressing the media in Bengaluru on Tuesday. Nagesh said that although there has been no formal representation made by the minorities department, parents have expressed displeasure. “Parents have told us that the Madrasa education is of a standard which does now allow their child to compete with the rest of the world. It is even challenging for them to appear for competitive exams. They are not happy about the quality of education offered here,” said Nagesh.
Regarding the controversy surrounding the prescription of Tipu Sultan for study, Nagesh said that only those aspects which are baseless have been eliminated. “Madikeri MLA Appachu Ranjan had sought that even if Tipu is being studied, all his faces must be shown to children. He has been the one who dropped Kannada language in several administrative processes and introduced Persian instead. He has also urged that the atrocities that he meted out to the people of Coorg be highlighted. We are making references to historic texts and only retaining what is true,” said Nagesh.
Moral science is being a subject in the upcoming academic years. Nagesh said that a committee would look into what aspects must be considered.
“The syllabus will not be designed keeping one religion alone in mind. Whichever religion teachers children righteousness, aspects of it will be introduced. It is but natural that there is bound to be a higher demand to study aspects of those communities which come in majority to schools,” he concluded.
