Centra plans to set up 'PM Shri' schools

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan highlighted the importance of globalizing education for India’s future growth during his visit to the sites of the upcoming campuses of Australian universities Deakin and Wollongong at Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City). Pradhan and his Australian counterpart, Jason Clare, were present for this event.

The establishment of these international campuses aligns with the objectives outlined in India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, emphasizing the internationalization of education. Pradhan emphasized that the presence of distinguished educational institutions in India will not only enhance the quality of education but also provide students with global opportunities.

Pradhan underscored the significance of internationalizing education for India’s growth, enabling students to access quality education, research opportunities, and fostering international connections. He mentioned that this approach exposes students to new ideas and contributes to the country’s soft power potential.

Deakin and Wollongong are the pioneering universities to establish international campuses in India. Their courses are scheduled to commence in July next year, with Deakin initiating its admission process from Tuesday.

Australian Education Minister Jason Clare highlighted the shared vision between Australia and India in recognizing the power of education. He mentioned the transformative impact of the two Australian universities in India through their collaboration with the country’s new education policy.

The introduction of these foreign university campuses aligns perfectly with the NEP 2020, focusing on internationalizing education and creating an inclusive educational environment. The intention is to elevate education quality and provide students with global prospects.

India’s growing economy, combined with its significant young population, emphasizes the country’s efforts to maintain a robust educational and skill development ecosystem. Challenges such as climate change present opportunities for global cooperation and innovation.

Clare expressed enthusiasm for the joint effort between India and Australia, highlighting the unique collaboration in building and operating campuses in India, fostering a physical embodiment of friendship and collaboration between the two countries.

Deakin University announced its courses, including Masters of Cyber Security and Business Analytics, set to commence from July 1, 2024. The university emphasized its interaction with the industry and its aim to be part of the knowledge, technology, and finance ecosystem.

University of Wollongong presented plans for a global finance center and global women fintech cooperation, offering networking and sponsorship opportunities. The campus aims to welcome its inaugural students in July next year.

GIFT City’s MD and CEO, Tapan Ray, outlined the ambitious growth plans for GIFT City, envisioning it as an international financial hub with a multitude of high-rise buildings and diverse infrastructure. The development includes a riverfront, entertainment zone, and residential units to support the city’s expansion.

The establishment of these campuses is deemed a significant step, augmenting the talent supply chain and positively influencing GIFT City’s business ecosystem.
