On Tuesday, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated the national conference marking the creation of 25 crore ‘APAAR: One Nation One Student ID Card.’ This initiative involves the APAAR ID, which integrates a student’s academic bank of credits (ABC), housing all academic learnings, certificates, and credentials, including formal or informal credits from various sources, such as skilling, sports, or social work. These credits are digitally verified by the respective awarding agencies.
The concept of ‘One Nation, One Student ID’ was outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The conference aims to discuss and strategize the implementation of a seamless educational landscape, ensuring academic mobility, and safeguarding data security and privacy for students.
The APAAR IDs were introduced to meet the need for a unified identity, streamlining interactions throughout a student’s academic journey. Minister Pradhan emphasized that this consolidated platform would present academic records in an organized manner, allowing students to monitor their academic progress, create personalized study plans, and access real-time performance analytics.
Minister Pradhan also highlighted the significance of numerous digital public infrastructures (DPIs) developed in the country recently. India has contributed 19 out of the 53 DPIs developed in 16 countries. The conference aims to explore strategies for further embedding the credit system across educational institutions and enhancing collaboration with industries. The event will emphasize the critical connection between academic credits, job profiles, and student employability. Discussions will also focus on outlining future steps to broaden the integration of the credit system and raise awareness among industry partners about the significance of the APAAR ID in aligning education with labor market demands.
