Presidency University, Kolkata is a public state university located in College Street, West Bengal. Established in 1817 as the Hindoo College, it was renamed as “Presidency College” in 1855. It was granted University status and renamed as Presidency University in 2010 after functioning as a top University of Calcutta constituent college for 193 years.
The university is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and offers a variety of undergraduate as well as postgraduate courses in various Science and Humanities departments such as Economics, English, Political Science, Mathematics etc.
Spread over 15 acres in College Street, Kolkata, Presidency University, Kolkata boasts top-notch academic and co-curricular facilities. The Presidency University library is one of Kolkata’s oldest higher education and research libraries featuringover3, 73,422 books, 1, 52,425 periodicals and multimedia resources. The university also houses an arts and a science library, and provides online library resources and free wi-fi service for it students.

Placements: The training and placement cell of Presidency University, Kolkata organises the annual placement drive. The cell also organises various training programmes for the development of personality and communication skills as well as mock aptitude tests to prepare students for the recruitment process.
The placement cell first sends invitations to the recruiters, who send all necessary information to the university. This is followed by student registration to the training and placement cell. After recruiters finalise the dates for campus visits, pre-placement talks are held, after which the recruitment process commences where students will have to appear for written tests, group discussions and interviews. Students clearing all rounds of selection will be given job offers and salary packages.
Recent placement highlights: The highest CTC offered was INR 13 LPA, while the average CTC stood at INR 5 LPA. Top recruiters who participated in the placement drive included Wipro, HSBC, RBI, SBI, Citi, and Deloitte.

Presidency University is one of the first institutes of Western-type higher education in Asia.
In its first cycle as a university, Presidency received A grade with a score of 3.04/4.00 by the NAAC. The university has been recognized as an “Institute of National Eminence” by the UGC.
Presidency University, Kolkata appeared in the inaugural list of top 50 institutions of NIRF rankings in 2016. However, NIRF rankings in 2017 and 2018 excluded universities like Presidency University which taught only science and humanities but not engineering, commerce, agriculture etc.
Accommodation facilities are provided for boys and girls. The boys’ hostel is called the Government Eden Hindu hostel, accommodating 274 UG and PG students. The girls’ hostel comprises 91 UG and PG students. The hostel has its own well-stocked library and its recreation centre.
