Prof C Raj Kumar, VC, OP Jindal Global University addresses Japanese Parliament

At the invitation of the Japanese Parliamentary Committee of the World Federation, Prof. C. Raj Kumar, the founding Vice Chancellor of O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU), addressed a distinguished caucus of over 20 Members of the Japanese Parliament, including Mr. Masahito Moriyama, the Hon’ble Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Prof. Kumar is the first Indian Vice Chancellor to speak at the Japanese Parliament, discussing topics such as India’s national education policy, bilateral relations, development agenda, and global governance.

Prof. Raj Kumar emphasized the significance of the Indo-Japan relationship, highlighting its historical, cultural, economic, political, and strategic dimensions. He also underscored the enduring people-to-people connections that underpin collaboration between the two nations, calling for deeper engagement.

Furthermore, Prof. Raj Kumar highlighted India’s support for Japan’s post-World War II political development and emphasized the alignment of democratic principles, rule of law, and respect for human rights between the two nations. He stressed the importance of long-term cooperation between India and Japan to address shared challenges in the Indo-Pacific region.

During the discussion, Prof. Raj Kumar elaborated on joint endeavors within the United Nations, advocated for permanent representation in the Security Council, and reiterated India’s commitment to higher education excellence, equity, and inclusion. He also emphasized the transformative potential of Indo-Japanese relations in promoting educational partnerships and fostering research excellence and innovation.

Accompanying Prof. Raj Kumar was a high-level faculty delegation from O.P. Jindal Global University, including prominent figures such as Prof. Mohan Kumar, Prof. Kathleen A. Modrowski, Prof. Padmanabha Ramanujam, Prof. Upasana Mahanta, Prof. Vesselin Popovski, and Prof. Akhil Bhardwaj.
