Rahul alleges BJP deprived Dalits, backward classes of teaching positions

February 22, 2024

On Wednesday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh of undermining the rights of Dalits and backward classes in the recruitment of teachers. Gandhi pointed to the “69,000 teachers recruitment scam” in Uttar Pradesh as evidence of the BJP’s alleged “anti-reservation mentality.” In a Hindi post on X, he claimed that the BJP government disregarded the Basic Education (Teachers) Service Rules, 1981, and the Services (Reservation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes) Act, 1994, thereby depriving Dalits and backward classes of their rights.

Gandhi asserted that aggrieved students informed him that the Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) did not receive their designated share in this recruitment. He raised concerns about the irregularity involving approximately 19,000 posts and emphasized the suspicion surrounding the entire recruitment process due to the omission of the original list.

Furthermore, Gandhi highlighted the struggle of the 6,800 candidates whose list was prepared following a report from the National Backward Classes Commission, stating that they have been seeking appointment for two years. Characterizing tampering with the reservation process as a serious matter, he expressed support for the youth fighting for their rights and called for a thorough investigation into the entire matter to ensure justice for them.
