A Rajasthan cop has set up a free school for street kids in the Churu district of the state. A few years ago, the cop, Dharamveer Jakhar, noticed some kids begging near the premises of his police station and realised the kids don’t have any family members or relatives and thus, had to seek to begging. Seeing these, Jakhar felt the need to help and himself started teaching them for an hour every day.
Furthermore, in a bid to help these children, he started a free school, “Apni Pathshala” in January 2016. The school currently teaches 450 underprivileged kids. The school also for the commute of the children, provides them free food, clothes as well as study material. When Jakhar found out that the main reason behind these children begging was to gather a basic cost of living, he decided to support them with things other than education as well.

Although the school has grown over the years, it lacks financial stability. It is run by donations from different campaigns but doesn’t have any support from the state government. Jakhar feels that if guided and helped properly, when these children grow up, they can contribute towards the development of society.
