Rajasthan Education Minister Madan Dilawar declared on Sunday that all school textbooks that glorify Mughal emperor Akbar and refer to him as “great” will be burned. This statement was made during his visit to Udaipur, where he addressed a gathering at an event held in the Vivekanand Auditorium of Mohanlal Sukhadia University.
Dilawar criticized the comparison of Akbar with Maharana Pratap, calling it an insult to the Rajput warrior king and to the pride of Rajasthan. He emphasized that Maharana Pratap, renowned for his unwavering bravery and resistance against the Mughal Empire, never bowed down, unlike Akbar, who he claimed was responsible for the deaths of many for his own gain.
The minister described calling Akbar “great” as an act of foolishness and stated that those who praised Akbar in school textbooks were, in effect, enemies of Mewar and Rajasthan. Dilawar noted that while they have not yet found such mentions in the textbooks, any books that include them will be destroyed. He underscored Maharana Pratap’s legendary status for his resistance, particularly in the Battle of Haldighati in 1576.
