Russia launched an overnight barrage of drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles at Kyiv as children prepared to return to school after summer vacation, Ukraine’s air force reported on Monday. Explosions rocked the capital, with debris from intercepted missiles and drones injuring three people and damaging two kindergartens. Multiple fires were reported across Kyiv.
After more than 900 days of conflict, both sides remain entrenched, showing no signs of easing their fight or seeking negotiations. Ukraine has advanced into Russia’s Kursk region, while Russian forces push deeper into the Donetsk region.
Long-range drone and missile strikes continue from both sides, with Russia claiming to have intercepted 158 Ukrainian drones overnight, including several over Moscow. The UK’s Defence Ministry reported that Russian forces have accelerated their advance on the key Donetsk stronghold of Pokrovsk, now within 10 kilometers of the city. Elsewhere along the 1,000-kilometer front line, no significant changes were noted.
On Sunday night, Russia fired 35 missiles and 26 Shahed drones at Ukraine. The Ukrainian air force intercepted nine ballistic missiles, 13 cruise missiles, and 20 drones. Kyiv residents sought refuge in bomb shelters as emergency services responded to the attacks.
In Kharkiv, an early morning strike hit the Industrialnyi district, igniting a residential building and several others, according to regional head Oleh Syniehubov. Following the attacks, Andrii Yermak, head of the presidential office, promised retaliation, stating, “There will be an answer for everything. The enemy will feel it.”
