| Spotlight Feature

SKVScindia Kanya Vidyalaya has very proudly hosted its 2nd International Moot court at school level in collaboration with BML Munjal University, organised by the career & guidance counsellor of Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya, Ms. Urvashi Pandey.

Moot courts are generally organised in collage and university level for law students to practice their advocacy skills in a controlled environment. However, SKV has introduced this at the school level, which not only helps the students develop critical thinking, research, and public speaking skills but also give them a first-hand experience of a court room and the legal proceedings. Participants argue on complex legal issues and present their cases before an esteemed panel of judges, allowing them to gain practical insights into the legal profession.

This year we hosted 90 students from 17 national and international schools for this 2-day event which comprised of the Prelims, semi-final & the final round. Each team comprised of 3 members, 2 speakers & 1 researcher. Through a draw the teams were assigned the role of the Plaintiff or Defendant.  This year the students were given an AI based case.

We were honoured to have Dr. Baruah, Professor and Dean of the School of Law at BML Munjal University & Justice JR Midha as the Chief guests for the opening and closing ceremony ceremony respectively. The participating students were privileged to attend a session by Dr. Baruah where he explained how law is just not confined to a courtroom but has a far wider application. The engaging talk cleared the assumptions towards law amongst today’s generation.

The Moot court rounds were judged by law professors from BML Munjal University who have not only graduated from top national law schools such as NLSIU (Bangalore), NALSAR (Hyderabad), and NUJS (Kolkata) but also hold post-graduate degrees from esteemed global institutions such as Oxford, the London School of Economics (LSE), University College London (UCL) and the National University of Singapore, among others.

The participates were just not confined to the court rooms they also went on to explore the rich culture and heritage of Gwalior, they visited the very famous Gwalior Fort and the Maharaja Jivaji Rao Museum, and engaged many other fun activities with dance, music and food at the grand Principals dinner.

By participating in moot court, is not only for students to develop essential skills that prepare them for successful careers in the legal field but also for aspiring litigators, negotiators, or scholars, the lessons learned in moot court are fundamental to their professional journey.
