The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has asked affiliated schools to have minimum 45 fully functional computers in labs to ensure that students can seamlessly access digital resources and online learning platforms.

The council has asked schools that the computer labs will have to be upgraded according to the new requirements within three months.
In a circular sent to the school heads on Saturday night, the council said, ” To ensure proper digital infrastructure in every affiliated school, it has been decided that each school is required to maintain a minimum of 45 fully functional computers in the tech lab, all connected to dedicated internet to facilitate seamless access to digital resources and online learning platforms.”

According to the circular the schools need upgraded tech lab as it ” is essential not only for facilitating day-to-day digital learning but also for the smooth execution and participation in various IT interventions planned by the CISCE. These interventions, which include key stage assessments — SHINE ( Student Holistic Insight and Nurturing Evaluation) — at Classes III, V and VIII and students’ enrichment activities, that are integral to monitoring student progress.”

The CISCE, according to the circular is dedicated to aligning its policies and standards with the National Education Policy 2020 which emphasises on giving a strong focus on advancing digital infrastructure in classrooms, to meet worldclass learning standards.
While many schools provide adequate computer facilities to students, there are several schools where tech labs are not fully equipped with fully operational computers.

“Adequate computer infrastructure ensures that students can fully engage in these initiatives, thereby promoting equitable access to digital resources, enabling timely assessments and fostering enhanced participation in educational activities aimed at their holistic development,” the council said.

A minimum of 45 computer systems must be available with one system for every 30 students, the council said in the circular.
The council has specified the PC and server configuration and also details of other requirements such as data backup, internet connectivity and essential accessories.

“We request all CISCE-affiliated schools to review their existing infrastructure and take necessary steps to meet this requirement within the next three months ” the circular read.
