Anticipating a possible flattening of the curve of the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic spurted by the Omicron variant, schools across the state are set to reopen for in-person classes in Karnataka starting Monday, January 31, 2022.
The Karnataka government had, in the first week of January suspended in-person classes in Bengaluru which was the epicenter of the wave contributing to 70% of the total cases. Other districts with high positivity rate including Mysuru and Belagavi had reverted to online classes only in schools.
Although the minister of primary and secondary education said that he was positive about the reopening of schools in Bengaluru, following a consultation with the Technical Advisory Committee, there has been no official circular in this regard. D Shashi Kumar, general secretary, Associated Managements of Private Schools in Karnataka, however, said that they would reopen in-person classes going by the media statement.
Among the other relaxations, the state is also set to ease the weekend curfew. Cinema Halls, gyms and swimming pools are allowed to operate at a 50% capacity.
Hotels, bars and pubs in the state have now been allowed to function in full capacity as against a 50% occupancy rate with the number of cases going on a steady decline. Karnataka reported over 30,000 cases on Friday.
