Started in October 2013, Sesame Street Preschool, Ghitorni, Delhi is a venture of Sesame Schoolhouse, an educational initiative of Sesame Workshop, a non-profit informal educational organisation, present in over 150 countries that also produces the children’s educational television show, Sesame Street.
Sesame Workshop has been present in India since 2006 through its television show, Galli Galli Sim Sim an Indian adaptation to Sesame Street. Sesame Workshop offers age-appropriate child centric education that includes playful project-based activities and providing a stimulating environment making children better-rounded, better adjusted and more confident.
Sesame Street Preschool Ghitorni campus is spread across 5000 square feet with ample outdoor area equipped with a variety of play equipments and jungle gym, air conditioned indoor area comprising of colourful classrooms, activity area, play area etc.
According to the preschool, its curriculum is child centric and prepares children for regular school and life beyond. The curriculum goes beyond the academic basics of reading, writing and arithmetic and creates opportunities for children to develop communication skills, work in collaboration and think creatively. The preschool offers a host of add on activities as a part of their curriculum addressing their age appropriate developmental needs in every domain of development.
The school’s admission period runs from March to August and parents can visit the centre to collect the admission form. There is no admission test or assessment and admissions are done at first come, first serve basis. Mid term admissions are conducted from September to November and post November admission can only be taken for the next academic year.
The preschool follows strict age criteria for its programmes:
Beginners (a parent toddler programme) for children aged 1 to 2 years
Playgroup for children aged 2 to 3 years
Nursery for children aged 3 to 4 years
Prep I for children aged 4 to 5 years
Prep II for children aged 5 to 6 years
According to a spokesperson, the preschool programmes at Sesame Street, Ghitorni are developed by the non-profit educational organisation that has promoted Sesame Street and is based on 40 years of insight into how children learn best. Sesame Schoolhouse is the latest milestone in Sesame Street’s mission to empower children everywhere to reach their highest potential.
