Over 40 schools in Delhi received a threat email asking a ransom of $30,000 threatening to detonate bombs if payment was not made.
The mail, which was sent to schools at 11.30 pm on December 8 warned that if the payment is not made, the bombs would be set off.
Police said that after schools reached out to them, children were sent home as a precautionary measure.
Among the schools that were the first to report mails were Delhi Public School in RK Puram and GD Goenka Public School in Paschim Vihar.
The hoax mail said that small bombs that would not cause much damage to the building structure were hidden “very well” within the premises.
“I planted multiple bombs inside (school) buildings. The bombs are small and hidden very well. It will not cause much damage to the building, but many people will be injured when the bombs detonate. If I do not receive $30,000 I will detonate the bombs,” media quoted the Delhi Police’s statement.
Meanwhile, in a message sent to parents, a private school which received the hoax said, “Dear Parents, an email was received this morning regarding a bomb threat in school. As such the students are being dispersed immediately as a precautionary measure. You are requested to kindly collect your wards from your respective bus stops.
