Overview

The Sharada Mandir School, Panaji was established in 1966 and was the first school in Goa to be affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination, or the ICSE board. However, in its early years, the senior class curriculum did have a conspicuous influence of the Cambridge syllabus.

The institution is constituted of the nursery, elementary, junior, and secondary sections and has a current strength of about 1,800 students and 100 staff members. This low student-teacher ratio ensures enhanced interactions and quality learning. The school offer education from nursery to class X.

The school management strives to make the institution “as good as the best in India, where holistic development of all students is of prime importance”.

Campus

Occupying a vast 15,000 sq meters, the Sharada Mandir campus is possibly one of the largest school campuses in the city. It is aesthetically sited on the Miramar–Donapaul highway overlooking the Miramar beach, thus giving a few classrooms a sea view.

The campus includes a huge playground, kids play area for the primary section along with indoor amenities for various games. There are two libraries, a bookstore, two computer laboratories and one laboratory each for the three science streams. The school houses a spacious auditorium for extracurricular activities, a refreshment canteen and a first-aid centre.

Other facilities include toy libraries and audio-visual rooms, and staff computer rooms for teachers.

Academics

Sharada Mandir is affiliated with CISCE and offers education from kindergarten to class X. While the elementary level comprises the kindergarten, the secondary section is divided into the middle (from classes V to VII) and senior sections (classes VIII to X).

French is offered as a second language to students who have a foreign passport. A favourable student-teacher ratio assists students in building a better rapport with the faculty. The school also has three counselors and two special educators.

Club activities are organised on Friday afternoons for classes VI-VIII. Clubs include the Journalism Club, Book Club, Drama Club, Sports Club, Heritage Club, Crerative Crafts Club, Art Club, Cyber Club and DNA Club.

The minimum age required for admission at the entry level, i.e. nursery, is two and a half years, as on June 1. Kindergarten to class IX admissions depend on vacancies after the final exam results in April. Nevertheless, request applications may be submitted to the front office when required.

Furthermore, admissions into class X are allowed if the students are transferring from another CISCE-affiliated school, since registrations for the class X ICSE examination are conducted by the council in class IX.
