Two children aged 11 and 13 are feared dead in a water body in Bengaluru following heavy rains on Monday.
Police identified the two as Laxmi, 11, and her brother Srinivas, 13. While the rescue team which is conducting a search at a lake near Kengeri has found Srinivas’s body, the girl remains unfound.
According to the police, the control room received an alert about a possible drowning between 5.30 and 6 pm on Monday and a Hoysala patrolling vehicle was dispatched. The search operations which were paused due to heavy rains on Tuesday were resumed later.
According to a police officer, the children resided near the lake and were raised by a single mother working for the BBMP.
Police said that as per the current information available, the siblings were there to fetch water and were on the banks of the lake. They suspected that the pot which they got to fetch water fell into the lake and the two drowned trying to recover it. The family said that the children did not go there to swim.
“A fire tender was immediately dispatched. After nearly 45 minutes, it was decided to resume the search at 6 am on Tuesday due to bad lighting conditions,” a fire official said.
