Established in 1982 by the late Shri Govind Hari Singhania (1937-2014), in honour of his industrialist-philanthropist father Sir Padampat Singhania (1905-1979), the Sir Padampat Singhania Education Centre (SPSEC), Kanpur is sited on a 11-acre lush green campus in the buzzing Kamla Nagar neighbourhood adjacent to the famous JK Temple. The school is a constituent enterprise of the JK Organisation and Jaykay Enterprises with business interests in defence, aerospace, med-tech and digital services industries.
SPSEC admitted its first batch of 250 students instructed by 11 teachers in 1982. Since then, over the past four decades, this CBSE-affiliated K-12 co-ed day school has evolved into a vibrant and future-ready institution providing holistic 21st century education to its 3,516 students — including 1,415 girls — tutored by 234 teachers. In the latest EW India School Rankings 2025-26, SPSEC, Kanpur was promoted to the exclusive category of EW Ivy League Day Schools.
“Our prime objective is to kindle students’ love for learning, inquiry and ethical action. Aligned with NEP 2020, we have embraced future-ready pedagogies — competency-based curricula, flipped learning models, weekly formative assessment and design-thinking projects — to ensure every learner experiences challenge, joy and relevance in the classroom. Our newly launched Skill School has opened new avenues for STEAM-based creativity, innovation and problem-solving. We are determined to nurture young people who think deeply, act responsibly and dream boldly,” says Bhawna Gupta, an English literature postgraduate of Kanpur University and recipient of the British Council’s Global Teacher Accreditation Award 2013. Gupta signed up with SPSEC in 1996 as a secondary school teacher, was promoted to vice principal in 2015 and to the principal’s office in 2017.
To attain these institutional objectives, the SPSEC management has invested liberally in a specially designed campus to stimulate exploration and discovery. Apart from the Shri Govind Hari Singhania Centre for Advanced Learning and India’s pioneering school-level Skill School, SPSEC’s academic infrastructure includes separate junior, primary, secondary and senior secondary buildings housing 100 air-conditioned smart classrooms, state-of-the-art robotics, psychology, and Vedic mathematics laboratories — installed in collaboration with IIT-Kanpur & CSJMU — 3D printing lab, AR/VR lab, astronomy lab, Gen AI lab, and a Meditation Centre. Moreover, well-furbished junior and senior libraries house 33,566 volumes and subscribe to 36 magazines and e-resources, a music lab, a specialised Dance Lab, a Sculpture & Heritage Lab, and a multi-purpose hall have been constructed to stimulate aesthetic sensibility, confidence, and cultural literacy of the school’s students.
“At SPSEC, technology is seamlessly embedded into every dimension of teaching-learning, and administration. Our 100 ICT-enabled classrooms are equipped with smart panels, digital visualisers, and audio-response systems to elevate classroom teaching-learning supported by a campus-wide high-speed Wi-Fi network, and the Google Classroom Learning Management System to facilitate blended learning, flipped classrooms, digital assignments, and real-time feedback. Moreover AI-based learning tools, digital formative assessments, virtual labs, STEM simulation software, language learning platforms, and modules on online safety and cybersecurity prepare students for the new digitally complex world,” adds Gupta.
Complementing a robust digital ecosystem, initiatives such as Nature’s Lap, the Biotechnological Museum, Navgrah Vatika, Buddha Vatika, and the Lady Anusuiya Botanical Garden extend learning beyond conventional classrooms. Moreover, appreciation and learning regional art including Pattachitra (West Bengal & Odisha), Cheriyal, Madhubani, Warli, Phad, Gond, among others is encouraged under the expert mentorship of nationally acclaimed artists to revive living traditions.
Vitally important co-curricular education is supplemented by an extensive sports programme and facilities such as expansive playing fields, an athletics track, synthetic tennis courts and indoor arenas for table-tennis, chess, gymnastics among others. Students receive expert coaching in cricket, football, tennis, badminton, basketball, archery, taekwondo, volleyball and roller-skating.
SPSEC’s commitment to holistic education has positively impacted academic outcomes. In 2025, of the 210 SPSEC students who wrote CBSE’s class XII school-leaving exam, 58 students averaged over 95 percent with the toppers Ananya Bajpai (Science) and Yashpreet Singh Gujral (Science) averaging 98.8 percent and 97.8 percent respectively. In the 2025 class X CBSE board exam, of the 237-strong cohort, 93 students averaged 95 percent-plus with Aadhar Khare topping with 99.2 percent. Recently, class XII student Rudraksh has earned an entry into the India Book of Records for designing and developing a long-range drone, reflecting the school’s culture of innovation and scientific inquiry.
