Somerville School, Noida was established in 1987 by the Lott Carey Baptist Mission. It is an un-aided Christian minority school affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), and offers kindergarten-class XII education. Sited on a 6 acre campus with manicured lawns, Somerville offers its students access to a wide variety of academic facilities and exposure to contemporary pedagogies. Says a school spokesperson: “The school’s motto ‘Love one another‘is the cornerstone around which the character and personality of every child is molded.”
The school celebrated its silver jubilee in 2012. Currently it has an enrolment of 2,755 students from class I to XII and 550 students in preparatory school (kindergarten).
Somerville School is sited on a scenic 6 acre campus in Noida and offers modern academic and sports facilities.
The school has installed the Educomp Smart Class, to make learning more interactive and fun, in its classrooms. State-of-the-art science labs; a math lab, psychology lab and computer lab are provided on campus. A well-stocked library caters to students and teachers with computerized catalogues to access learning materials easily.
The Nelson Memorial Auditorium is equipped with modern, state-of-the-art audio-visual facilities. School events ranging from the morning assemblies, workshops, seminars, felicitations and investiture ceremonies, as well as inter-house, inter-section and inter-school competitions in Indian music, Western music, instrumental music, classical choreographed dances, plays and musicals, debates, quizzes, flower arrangement and Rangoli making competitions are held in the auditorium.
The art department of Somerville Noida has three art rooms to cater to the junior, middle and senior school. The school also has playing fields, a gym, a basketball court and football fields.
Other facilities include two well-equipped sick bays with trained nurses on duty and a canteen that serves snacks.
The school is affiliated to CBSE and offers K-class XII education in English medium with Hindi as a second language. The syllabus for classes I to VIII follow the guidelines laid down by the NCERT. Physical education and work experience are an essential part of the curriculum. Sanskrit is taught as the third language in classes VI to VIII. Computer science is a compulsory subject for classes III to IX.
For classes IX to XII, the syllabus prescribed by CBSE is followed.
In classes XI-XII, choice of three streams is offered: commerce, science and humanities.
Extracurricular education
Facilities are provided for learning art and craft, music, dance, elocution, yoga and gymnastics. Children are encouraged to participate in sports and games such as volleyball, football, kho-kho, throw ball, cricket, basketball, table tennis and athletics.
Participation in student clubs such as the eco club and book club is also encouraged. Social work activities, field trips and excursions are frequently undertaken.
Children express their creativity through the Wall Magazine and Display Boards.

Admissions are open only to the residents of Noida and preferably those staying within a 3 km radius. Parents should apply in the month of February-March for admission to classes KG to V. If the child is shortlisted, he/she will be called for an admission test in the month of March/April. If the child clears the test, he/she will be called for a final interview with the principal.
From classes VI-IX, the application form is available only if a vacancy exists.
