Overview

Sited on a sprawling 250-acre campus in Kattankulathur, Chennai, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRM IST) is a private deemed university offering contemporary education in engineering, medicine and health sciences, business management, science, humanities and numerous study and research opportunities for students in India and abroad. Over the past 25 years, the institution has acquired a national reputation for its excellent campus infrastructure.

SRM IST was founded in 1985 as SRM Engineering College in Kattankulathur. SRM IST includes seven campuses, three in Tamil Nadu — Kattankulathur, Ramapuram and Vadapalani, one in NCR Delhi, all four of which come under ‘SRM IST, Chennai’. The other three campuses include one in Sikkim, one in Sonipat and one in Amaravati. There are about 50,000 students studying in SRM.

Campus

SRM University has maintained excellent academic standards to make learning an enjoyable experience, with experienced faculty, inspiring libraries and stimulating discussion rooms, large playgrounds and state-of-the-art labs. Sited on a 250-acre campus in Kattankulathur (main campus), it has the following amenities:

Academics

The private university is affiliated to Anna University, approved by theUniversity Grants Commissionand is accredited by theNational Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).It has been given an overall grade of B+ by NAAC

Each academic year is divided into two semesters. Each semester has three internal exams and one final exam (semester exam) for all theory subjects. For laboratory courses there is usually one internal exam followed by the final exam. A distinguishing feature of SRM University is the wide choice of study programs and Ph D options offered by the varsity’s six faculties — 38 undergraduate and 45 postgraduate. Moreover, the university through its ‘semester abroad’ program sends 100 deserving students every year to study for one semester in several blue-chip universities including MIT, Carnegie Mellon and Berkeley. Currently SRMU boasts student exchange program’s with over 25 foreign universities and an international advisory board.

SRM IST Placement Highlights: 2020

The 2020 batch of SRM IST saw a record number of 4751 offers by recruiters on day 1 of the placement drive. A total of 7926 offers were made by 600 companies with a record number of 200 new recruiters.

Top companies among the recruiters included Google, Microsoft, TCS, Amazon, Honda, Infosys and Wipro.

The highest CTC offered was INR 41.6 LPA by Microsoft, the average being INR 10 LPA

Special recruitment drives and opportunities were offered for female students by several businesses such as Shell India, IBM and Saint Gobain.

General Information

Admission

SRM University offers a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral degree program across the faculties of engineering and technology (tuition fee: Rs.150,000-250,000 per year), management (Rs.150,000-200,000), medicine and health sciences (Rs.50,000-400,000) and science and humanities (Rs.30,000-50,000).

UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSIONS

B.Tech. Admissions:

Selection Criteria- SRM Joint Engineering Entrance Exam (SRMJEEE UG) held every April on the online mode. The entrance comprises compulsory sections for physics and chemistry with an optional section of mathematics or biology depending upon course selected. Each section carries an equal number of questions and marks.

Eligibility- 10+2 from a recognized board in science stream with a minimum of 50% marks

Admission Process-

• Candidates have to apply to SRM IST via the institute’s official website and book their exam slot.
• Once registered, candidates can access their application form and appear for the examination on the selected time and venue.
• With their login ID’s and score card accessible via the SRM IST website, students can stay updated on their result. Qualifying candidates are then invited for the counselling session for seat allocation. Admission is secured upon fee payment and document verification.

B.Arch./B.Des. Admissions:

Selection Criteria- scores in NATA (B.Arch.) and qualifying examination (B.Des.)

Eligibility- 10+2 from a recognized board in science stream with a minimum of 50-55% marks. Mathematics compulsory subject for B.Arch.

Admission Process-

• Candidates have to apply to SRM IST via the institute’s official website. They must appear for the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) examinations held twice a year across the country.
• Candidates shortlisted on the bases of NATA/qualifying examination scores are called for the counselling session for their seat allocation. Admission is secured upon fee payment and document verification.

B.A., B.Sc., B.Com., B.C.A., B.B.A. & LL.B. Admissions:

Selection Criteria- marks secured in the qualifying admissions.

Eligibility- 10+2 from a recognized board in science stream with a minimum of 50% marks with mandatory subjects based on the subject specialisation

Admission Process-

• Candidates have to apply to SRM IST via the institute’s official website
• Since these courses conduct non-entrance based admissions, candidates will be offered admission based on marks obtained in the qualifying examinations. Admission is secured upon fee payment and document verification.

MBBS and BDS Admissions:

Selection Criteria- NEET UG score

Eligibility- 10+2 from a recognised institution with PCB (Zoology also accepted) with a minimum of 50% marks.

Admission Process-

• Candidates have to appear for the NEET UG exams held once a year.
• After registering for admission to SRM IST, candidates with qualifying scores/ranks are invited for the counselling process for the allocation of seats. Admission is secured upon fee payment and document verification.

B.Sc. Nursing, B.O.T., B.P.T., B.Pharm. Admissions:

Selection Criteria- SRMJEEH (UG) score

Eligibility- 10+2 from a recognized board in pure sciences/medical stream with a minimum of 50% marks with mandatory subjects based on the subject specialisation

MBA Admissions:

Selection Criteria- SRMJEEM or GMAT, CAT, MAT, XAT, TANCET, CMAT, NMAT scores

Eligibility- Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university with minimum of 60% marks

Admission Process-

• Candidates have to apply to SRM IST via the institute’s official website and book their exam slot and centre for appearing for SRMJEEM.
• There is a primary screening of candidates based on their educational qualifications and work experience.
• Candidates with qualifying marks in the test scores are then called for the psychometric test, followed by a group discussion and personal interview.

M.A., M.Sc., M.Com. & M.C.A. Admissions:

Selection Criteria- marks secured in qualifying examinations

Achievement

With heavy demand for admissions, branch camp-uses were established in Ramapuram and Vadapalani in Chennai, Modi Nagar in Delhi and a 60-acre campus in Tiruchi. Today SRMU boasts 20 constituent colleges with an aggregate enrolment of 40,000 students including 300 foreign students instructed by over 1,800 teaching and 1,700 administrative personnel.

National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranked SRM IST 41 in the engineering ranking in 2020, 19 in the pharmacy ranking, 35 among universities and 58 overall.

Accommodation

There are separate hostels for men and women on the campus, with necessary study and recreation facilities. Hostels are well equipped with neatly spaced rooms with study tables and modern kitchens serving vegetarian and non-vegetarian food.

Besides hostel dining facility, there are food outlets and cafes too, open 12 to 15 hours a day, offering fast-food, pastries, juice and ice cream.

A staff quarters is also available at the main Kattankulathur campus housing 120 staff and their families.
