SRM-AP to host International Conference on GETSC 2018

Amaravati (Andra Pradesh) based SRM University in association with Hyderabad headquartered Amara Raja Batteries is hosting an “International Conference on Green Energy Technologies for Smart Cities (GETSC-2018)” at the university campus from December 19 through 21, 2018. Dr. V K Saraswat, honourable member, NITI Aayog, (National Institution for transforming India) will inaugurate the conference.

The conference will feature a series of presentations and panel discussions covering basic and advanced fields of research – materials and computational sciences, biotechnology, environmental science and engineering, health education and environment. Equal emphasis will be placed on practical technologies and applications for smart cities such as smart grids, storage solutions (hydrogen production, batteries and energy storage technologies) fuel cells and sensor technologies, carbon foot print as well as smart waste management systems.

Over 45 international delegates from over 10 countries and 150 delegates from across India will be gracing the conference including distinguished academics, researchers and higher education leaders in the field of material science, renewable energy and green technologies. The conference will be chaired by Professor D. Narayana Rao, SRM University pro vice-chancellor, Dr. Arumugam Manthiram, director, Texas Materials Institute, UT-Austin, USA and M. Jagadish, CTO, Amara Raja Batteries, India.

“We at SRM AP are focused on R&D and deploying it for greater good. One of the main problems regarding the Smart City projects is the issue of energy access and the prohibitive costs thereof. We aim to prove through this conference that sustainable need not be expensive and we need to focus on solutions that are green and sustainable in our quest for energy solutions. We are bringing in global experts to share their work with us,” says Dr. Rao.

The conference aims at highlighting advancements in the principal sciences that sustain modern green cities – namely, Green Energy, Renewable Energy, Materials Science, Environmental Science, and Green Technologies. The conference will work as a bridge between the academic community (faculty and research students), practitioners and policymakers.

The idea is to explore ways to promote the development and use of sustainable energy without disrupting the environmental and social fabric of smart cities. “Putting the focus on green technologies specifically designed for smart cities is the best investment for the future,” says Dr. Jatis Kumar Dash, assistant professor, physics and the conference convener.
