Over 1.28 lakh (16.52 %) students have secured between 90-100 % (A+ grade) in the SSLC (class 10 state boards) 2021 exams in Karnataka The results of the exam were announced in Bengaluru on Monday.
With the state government asserting that no child shall be failed in the SSLC exams, 9 % of students were given grace marks to declare them as pass . The highest grace marks, thus awarded, was 28, the benefit of which was availed by at least 13 students, the newly appointed minister for primary and secondary education, B C Nagesh, said. One female candidate, in her late 20s was debarred from exams cheating as she had hired an imposter to write the exams for her.
This year, SSLC exams were conducted on two days. The 120 marks question paper had only multiple choice questions with 40 marks allocated per subject. Students wrote three subjects papers on each of the days. Out of the 8.76 lakh students who had registered for the exams, 8.71 appeared for the exams. 5,063 students who were either Covid positive or had a family crisis due to the pandemic are permitted to appear for the exam in September.
A high number of students, 32.07 % who appeared for the exams have secured between 80-89 %, falling in the ‘A’ grade category, 36.86 students have secured 60-79 % falling in the ‘B’ category while 14.55 % have secured grade ‘C’.
In the subject wise category, the statistics provided by the Karnataka Secondary Education Examinations Board states that 25,702 students have secured a perfect 125 score, 36,628 have secured a centum in second language, and 36,776 have secured a 100/100 in third language. Among the core subjects, 6,321 scored a 100/100 while 3,649 secured a centum in science and 9,367 in social science. The numbers are significantly high as compared to the results of 2020.
Responding to queries on pre-university college admissions, commissioner for public instruction, Anbu Kumar said that the state has over 12 lakh seats in PU, a number higher than class 10 students who have cleared the exams. “Wherever possible, PU classes will be started in government schools and guest lecturers will be appointed,” he said.
The pass percentage was 100 % among the boys and 99.9 % among girls. One female candidate, in her late 20s was debarred from exams as she had an imposter write exams for her. The student had registered as a private candidate. Owing to this one case, the state’s overall SSLC results stand at 99.9 % despite a decision by the government to declare all students as pass in the pandemic year.
